Is a small city or town calling your name? You are not alone. Since the pandemic, more and more people are moving away from large cities and embracing an appealing pace of life in smaller cities.
With a smaller community comes a closeness that simply isn’t possible in the anonymity of a larger city. When neighbors know one another a spirit of cooperation takes hold, and residents work together. Whether it’s running into a police officer on ride a bike with a cop day, families coming together on a beach cleanup, or shooting super soakers at each other during a parade, there’s nothing else like it. We recognize the importance of public involvement in civic and community affairs.
One of the best aspects of living in a small city can be the colorful local business scene that can’t be found anywhere else. Not only can shopping local provide unique finds and quality services, but it also means supporting your neighbors directly and giving back to your community.
The City of Holmes Beach promotes a sustainable use of the Gulf and natural resources while providing ample opportunities for many small businesses to thrive in our local waters.
Because small cities often provide a tight-knit community where residents look out for one another, they’re also ideal for raising a family. Smaller populations naturally may lead to smaller class sizes and educational environments where children can be in class with their neighbors, cementing social bonds that are key to development.
While some small cities and towns exist as tight-knit communities in the shadow of more densely populated areas, many are characterized by their rural landscape and sometimes even remote location. The cities of Anna Maria Island are known for their white sandy beaches, turquoise blue waters, and beautiful weather. This means that the great outdoors are right in your own backyard.
Residents of small communities are often quite familiar with each other, as well as the general happenings around the town, so getting away with a crime unseen is a lot more difficult.
Stress is one of the leading health issues in society today. Living in a small town is an opportunity to slow things down. Life can be stressful, regardless of who you are or what your job is, so add living in a big city or county to that stress and you’ll get a sense of how much easier you can take things if you live in a small city.
We value the right of Home Rule and local control and recognize the importance of intergovernmental cooperation and coordination. Our city realizes its obligation to minimize any threat to health, safety, and welfare posed by hazards, nuisances, incompatible land uses, and to minimize environmental degradation.
